St John’s Under Fives began in 1987.
We are a Christian organisation, the activities and groups are part of the church’s work in the parish community.
Our aim is to provide a welcoming place for carers, parents, grandparents, childminders and children to come and meet each other.
What’s on offer in Under Fives.
Community Nursery & Pre-School.
- 2 to 5 years old
- Monday to Friday
- Early session 8.30am-9am
- Core session 9am-Noon
- Lunch Club Noon-1pm (parents provide packed lunch)
- Core session 1pm-4pm

We are an OFSTED inspected group. We aim to offer high standard inclusive care and education provision for all children.
Children aged 3-5 years are entitled to 5 FREE 3 hour core sessions per week starting the term after their 3rd birthday.
Children can be added to our waiting list from 18 months please ring or call in for further details. A small number of places may available at short notice.
Rainbow Club
- Carer and Toddler groups
- Birth-3rd Birthday
- Tuesday and Friday 9.30am-11.15am
- Cost £1.40 per session
Rainbow Club welcomes all adults and their toddlers. There is no waiting list please call in to the Hope Centre to join us or for further details.
Come and Play
- Wednesday 1.15pm-2.45pm
- Its free to all carers and children 0-3 years
Why not join us for all or part of the time. Lots of toys to play with for your children and warm child friendly room
Play and Praise
- Carer and child group
- Birth-5 years
- Monday 1.15pm-2.45pm
- Cost FREE
This is a Christian group which incorporates Bible stories, singing, activities and refreshments, all with the Christian message as a basis. There is no waiting list please feel free to come along and join us all are welcome.
Minikidz
- Children without adults
- 4-7 years (up to year 2 in school)
- Monday 3.15pm (*ish)-4.30pm (*children arrive when school finishes)
- Cost FREE
Toys, games, activities, Bible stories and light refreshments. All children in foundation stage and key stage one are welcome. Please call in or ring for further details
Cell Group
- Adults (a crèche is available on request)
- Monday 11.15am-1pm (weekly)
- Tuesday 1.30pm-2.45pm (fortnightly)
A group for adults to pray worship and study the bible together. Everyone is welcome to come along and join us. Please ring for further details.
Please note that all Under Fives groups run during term time.
We are a non profit making organisation any fees are set to meet running costs. We rely heavily on our own fund raising and welcome everyone who attends our annual events such as Coffee mornings, Christmas craft fair, Photograph day and Table top sales.
